Salvador, the first capital of Brazil and the capital of the state of Bahia, is the place to start. With its exotic culture and vibrant social life, Salvador is a city that has a lot to offer:

Beautiful examples of colonial ad and architecture; beaches; African culture and a very intriguing cultural life. No doubt an important part of its charm comes from the very strong African influence. Salvador's colonial ensemble is the largest collection of Baroque architecture in Latin America. The Pelourinho or Pelô, as the old city is locally known, is an incredible center for leisure activities, with lively music, art galleries and shops.
